Directed by Massimo Dallamano
Starring Herbert Lom, Helmut Berger, Marie Liljedahl, Richard Todd, Margaret Lee
A special end-of-year tribute screening in memory of the late, great actor & Luchino Visconti muse Helmut Berger, star of THE DAMNED (1969), LUDWIG (1973) and SALON KITTY (1976). Enjoy him in this groovy and kinky 70s update to THE PICTUR OF DORIAN GRAY, showcasing him in the type of sexually ambiguous & narcissistic role he excelled at.
'HE IS TWENTY-ONE. HE HAS BEEN TWENTY-ONE FOR ALMOST HALF A CENTURY'
A corrupt young man (Berger) somehow keeps his youthful beauty eternally, but a special painting gradually reveals his inner ugliness to all.
This adaptation stresses the decadence and eroticism of the original Oscar Wilde story and changes the setting to early 1970s London. The sexual liberation of the late 1960s and early 1970s provides a psychedelic backdrop for Dorian's escapades in this version, and also the general clothing and fashion style of the era is extrapolated into a 1970s version of the aesthetic, decadent world of the 1890s novel. The exceptionally groovy score by Giuseppe De Luca enhances the seventies milieu.'
